Matt Busey Scholarship Fund

Matt Busey, the son of Rich and Linda Busey, was in a motorcycle accident December 10, 2006. Matt lost his life. As written in his obituary; Matt was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend whose very presence was a celebration of life. He never let a moment pass without living it to its fullest - excelling in baseball and soccer, engaging in any sporting opportunity that came his way, learning and growing through independent travel. He was an adventurer whose zest for life was contagious. His competitive spirit challenged the best in himself and the best in all who knew him. During that time memorial contributions were asked to be made to the Urbana High School Soccer Program. Now Jim Busey, Rich's brother, along with the family have created the Matt Busey Scholarship Fund. Proceeds from the fund will award scholarships to college bound seniors at UHS as well as fund the Matt Busey Spirit Award in the area of soccer. The fund will also award scholarships in the Business Department at Illinois State University where Matt graduated with a bachelor's of arts in marketing and finance. Matt was 24.

To assist in this fund the Class of 72 would ask that all classmates donate to the fund whether you are attending the reunion or not. Losing a child is beyond comphrehension but Matt can live on through our assistance and through the work of the Busey family. For those registered to attend the Saturday, Class of 72 Reunion Social Gathering at Bunny's we will now ask for a $20 donation at the door which will go to the Matt Busey Scholarship Fund on behalf of the Class of 72. Mr. Jim Kelly graciously is supplying all food for our class event that evening at no cost. His generosity has now spilled over to also include those attending in honor of Matt Busey. If you can not make the reunion dinner on Friday please stop by Saturday, starting at 6:00 pm, to not only see your classmates but assist the Class of 72 in helping the Matt Busey fund get off to a great start.
